Wollongong Botanic Garden

About Wollongong Botanic Garden

The Wollongong Botanic Garden, nestled at the foot of Mount Keira in Australia, has grown into a cherished local attraction since it first opened its doors in 1970. What started as a single garden site has expanded to include Mount Keira Summit Park, Puckeys Estate Nature Reserve, and Korrungulla Wetlands, all of which are cared for by the Botanic Garden.

Visitors and residents alike flock to the Botanic Garden to take in the diverse collection of plants and stunning features that have been added over the years. And beyond its beauty, the Garden serves a crucial purpose in conserving native flora, making it an essential landmark in the Illawarra region.

Discover the history of the Wollongong Botanic Garden, where the land was once home to the Dharawal Aboriginal people for thousands of years. After being used for farming, the Hoskins family bought the land in 1929 and built their home, Gleniffer Brae, which still stands today on the grounds of the Botanic Garden. In the 1950s, the Hoskins family generously donated much of their land to the Wollongong City Council to create the stunning Botanic Garden we know and love today. Explore the perfect blend of natural beauty and fascinating human history!
